Your Tips on Goal Setting: I want to talk to you guys a little about goal setting. A lot of folks post about their weight loss goal, which is perfectly understandable following WLS of any type. Today I want to talk about looking at Goal Setting in a broader way because focusing only on the scale can be misleading and drive you NUTS. As many of you know, I have a sign on my clients' scale that reads... "Operator Warning: This scale will only provide you with a single number. This number will not differentiate between bone, muscle, hair, internal organs, fat, water, clothes, etc. This scale will not provide any useful information on the character or soul of the individual being weighed." So what are some other goals to focus on during the long process following your lap band procedure... Many of you already know that exercising (highly recommended) can result in a smaller body that weighs the same. This means that it is important to focus on changes in your clothes, and body shape as much if not more than changes in the scale. How about all those positive changes you experience as your body/weight changes, such as feeling better about yourself, being more social, more assertive, having more energy, feeling more attractive, etc. These are all areas where you can set goals for yourself and monitor your progress. Writing down your goals whether it is to be more socially active, exercise more, make more eye contact, be more assertive or whatever, is a powerful way to help achieve these important goals. Ink it if you think it - in other words, if a goal is worth pursuing then it is worth putting it in writing. Believe me writing down your goals will greatly improve your chances of reaching your goals. Also it is important to make short range and realistic goals. Make your goals weekly and DON'T FORGET to reward yourself (but not with food). Well, I have rambled on long enough about goal setting for today. I hope this is helpful and the best to each and every one of you reading this post. |
